Travel Like A Business Owner, Frugally!

People who don't travel much will often think that business travel is exotic. Interesting cities, nice hotels, restaurant meals all seems so much better that the everyday "humdrum" existence they live!
Then there are the people who actually travel for business, whose view might be a little different. Longer hours, no home cooked meals, miss their own bed, hotels are all the same when all you do is use them to sleep and shower, restaurant meals get old and then there is the time away from family

Top 4 Tips to Increase Your Social Shares

Social signals have been in the spotlight since 2010, when Search Engine Land's Danny Sullivan first blogged about them. Shortly thereafter, Steve Cutts confirmed in a video that Google does consider these signals.
This should come as no surprise. Social signals, like backlinks, provide an objective vote of confidence for a specific page or resource. It's unlikely that social signals have surpassed backlinks in importance, but one thing is clear: it's no longer safe to ignore them.

Storing Food Is Good for Every Budget

It is both wise and economical to be prepared for any occasion and keep a store of food and water in the home. You never know when a time might occur that you cannot get out buying groceries through bad weather or being housebound. Another reason for keeping stores of food is inflation, through which food prices continuously tend to rise. However, before you rush to the shops to stock up with quantities of food for storage, decide where you are going to keep it. You will need a place that is cool, dark, dry, and equipped with shelving. These can be made from wood, plastic, or metal as long as they can hold the weight you put on them, you do not want your boxes or cans to land up on the floor, nor should boxes or food in general be stored at ground level.
Your cache of food needs to consist of items such as complete boxed meals, food that is non-perishable, canned food, flour, salt, seasonings, peanut butter, sugar, tea, coffee, long life milk, olive and other oils. It is also a good idea to keep a supply of a variety of rice, noodles, and beans. Items such as sugar, rice, and flour need protection from mice and insects so they must be put into containers that have tight fitting lids. This system prevents moisture and air entering your sealed stored food. Remember to use food in rotation, in other words use the longest kept food first.
For indefinite food storing it is advisable to use food grade containers for storing food as these will ensure there are no hazardous chemicals used in their manufacture that could be transferred either to the food or to humans.
Food grade containers have either #2 marked next to the symbol for recycling or else HDPE (high-density polyethylene) stamped on the bottom. The most popular containers to buy for bulk storage are the five-gallon ones. Before you put in any food do wash them out well with soapy water and make sure to thoroughly dry them. The lids with gaskets are excellent to use in preference to usual bucket lids. They may be slightly more expensive but are far easier to open and shut tightly.
Thick Mylar bags (5mill or over) make good protection food liners and can last for more than twenty years. They are durable and can be reused many times. It is a good idea to add oxygen absorbers to your containers for storing food for added prevention against pathogens or mould as they begin working immediately on contact with oxygen. They come available in assorted sizes, so buy the correct size for the container you are using. For example, 2,000cc's of oxygen absorbers need adding to one 5-gallon container. They are inedible, non-toxic and the smell and taste of the product in the container is not affected. Using a barrier system, the food in storage is kept in the best condition for long- term protection.

Five Tips to Hire Food Caterer Services

Any good party is incomplete without good food, isn't it? In case of private gatherings, arranging for the food is not a daunting task as you can manage the nuances from your kitchen itself. But, if it's a large scale party, food catering services are your best resort. However, if you are choosing a food caterer, you have to take into consideration several factors like the experience of the caterer, quality of food, uniqueness of menu, etc.
For those of you planning to choose a food caterer, here are a few tips that you should keep in mind:
Book the caterers well in advance: Food caterers can be really busy especially during wedding seasons. Therefore, if you want to hire their services, ensure that you initiate the process well in advance to avoid any disappointments.
Work out the menu: Every food caterer has a few signature dishes. Find out all that you can about these dishes and accordingly work out the entire menu. Also, don't forget to take the preferences as well as demographics of your guests into consideration. For example, if a large part of your invited guests consist of the oldie crowd, laying down a heavy meal is not a good idea. After all, they would prefer to keep it simple and light.
Venue recce with the caterer: If you think that this is not so important, you are making a mistake. Ensure that the caterer you plan to hire gets a chance to check-out the details of the venue. This will help him or her plan the services in a better way and keep your guests happy. In fact, if possible do a little rehearsal to get a fair enough idea of where the counters will be located.
Less is the new more: When it comes to hiring food caterers, a lot of people make the mistake of insisting on an elaborate spread. But, ask yourself, is it necessary? We would strongly recommend you to restrict the menu to the best few dishes in order to ensure that your guests can savour the tastes in a better way.
Make sure it all follows the theme: The food, décor and service should be planned carefully in a manner that makes it all follow a particular theme. After all, the last thing you want is to bedazzle your guests with a mix of Italian Pasta and Chinese noodles on the same menu.

Simple Indian Recipes Are Delicious

I would like to add something interesting about the Foods of India. The country has many states and all are different from each other in their culture and other aspects but united together in one strong federation. Well, unity in diversity we call. And now, I won't be stepping off the topic I am going to speak and let me get into the same now.
Foods that are available in India are to be seen as a separate concept, frankly. There are many varieties that can be tasted and every place in the country has their specialty of cooking. Starting with the sweets and we can go through many variety of foods, curries and different tastes for a single dish in different parts of the country. My personal experience, the fish curry is the dish you will get in different tastes in different places. And, every style of cooking is no match to the other. Surprisingly in some places, the metros in the country especially, will offer every taste from every corner of the country. Local unique tastes, however, though vary slightly but ultimately you will get a feel that you have satisfied your taste buds.
I saw many recipe sites recently and have gone through them all and literally had my mouth water. The sweets, actually I am a big fan of them, and other non - vegetarian recipes really are amazing to see. Frankly, I dreamt of going on a food tour across the country India. Speaking about the vegetarian recipes, I am a hardcore non-vegetarian in fact lol, there are many recipes you will see. A single vegetable is cooked in so many styles and same recipe again will differ from one place to the other. The spices in fact are the reason behind this variation. I would like to throw a word about the Indian spices but would be doing the same next time. Well, now let us go into my favorite foods.
The vegetarian recipes, but I am a non-vegetarian. I say this every time, whenever I hangout with my friends and have lunch together, I generally would love to taste a vegetarian recipe too. The moment I order any vegetarian recipe, I become centre of attraction. Well, I must say there are several vegetarian recipes you will find in India and one day or the other you must taste them all. My personal favorites are those vegan recipes made with cottage cheese, which is also called the Paneer. The Paneer recipes mixed with vegetable too tastes really so yummy. The Paneer is a milk product and the same is cooked across the country in different styles. The vegetables are cooked in many numerous ways and every dish has its unique taste. I generally have never into these veggie recipes but they really are good.
The most interesting part of the entire topic, I must say. Now, adding things about the non-vegetarian recipes. The chicken is the foremost thing that comes to my mind. Well, the many number of styles we come across and every dish really wins the heart of the one who savor the chicken recipes in India. The species play an important role in blending the taste. The rice recipes from some parts especially really are surprising and they are famous. I can name few, Chicken Biryani, Tandoori Chicken, Fish Fry, Gosht Biryani, etc. Gosht means mutton dear friend. Speaking like this, the list is never-ending.
The sweets or the delights we need to speak about and most important thing, we cannot finish a meal without them. Many delights are there and I say that every sweet has its unique taste and every place in the country gives their own mouth-watering touch.

Healthy Foods to Send to Preschool

Overview
When your child is about one year old, they can eat some foods, but not all foods. They may or may not have teeth and finding something healthy to pack for preschool/daycare can be daunting.
As a previous preschool teacher, and teacher of one year olds, I have some Do's and Don'ts for you.
This or That?
Do NOT Send
  • Weiner dogs, no matter the size
  • Whole grapes
Do Send
  • Fresh fruit - make sure it is cut into small pieces that will not get stuck in your baby's throat. Children love strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and citrus.
  • Squeeze packs - there are many packs available now that are organic, preservative free, and very healthy for your baby. I always tell parents to load up on these when they are on sale because they can get pricey if you buy them regularly.
  • Chicken and Turkey - shred the meat. If you cook the meat slowly, preferably in a steamer or crockpot, the meat will get cooked thoroughly and will fall apart easily. This is a good way to get some protein in your baby's diet. Think about shredded meat for BBQ sandwiches, and make the meat even smaller. Your child will love it! Just don't send BBQ sauce with it as that will be a big mess for the teacher to clean up!
  • Crackers and Pretzels
  • Nuts - make sure you child has enough teeth and the capability of chewing before you send nuts.
  • Sandwiches - cut into small pieces for your child
  • Ham - shredded. Go to the deli at your grocery store and find a ham with no preservatives or hormones. Then have them shred the meat as small as they can. This will be great for your little one to eat.
  • Cereal/Trail Mixes
  • Granola bars
  • Cheese - shredded or cut into very small pieces. You can also buy stick and string cheeses but they will be pricier. If you can, find cheese that is all natural. I like to use Sargento.
Additional Advice
Make sure and tell the teacher if you are introducing new foods. This will let the teacher know to help the child understand the new food. It will also alert them to watch for allergic reactions. Also, don't give your child all new food all at once. Introduce new foods in the midst of foods you know they already like. This will ensure that your child will have some food to eat even if he/she doesn't like the new food.
Babies are very finicky. So if your baby doesn't like something today, reintroduce it in a few weeks. They will likely take to it then. Their taste is developing which causes their likes and dislikes to change frequently. This may cause them to quit liking something that they used to love. It's OK. They will likely return to it later.
Be patient with your child and continue to introduce them to new and old foods. Variety in the early years will help your child to develop a diverse palette.

Seal the Food and Keep It Fresh

Food is something without which humans cannot survive but the best part about it is its diversity. There are hundreds of different cuisines and edible items that are consumed by people every day. Think about the different raw and cooked products bought every single day by billions of people all over the world. The main concern is the packaging. If the packaging of raw products is not air tight, then they can get spoiled making it inedible. It is not just true for the commercial products. Think about the leftovers from last day or the food given to kids for their lunch at school, every item needs to have proper protection to make it a healthy option for the people.
The Best Bet
The best bet for maintaining the quality of food is using vacuum sealers in order to protect the food from fermentation. People may think that commercial vacuum sealer cannot be used for their own houses. But that is not true because the commercial items can be used with ease in everybody's house if they decide to use it for protection from diseases. They are very easy to use once the manual has been read and provide a great protection towards the health issues regarding food poisoning. Why use a vacuum sealer and not other food protectors?
• Plastic wraps, aluminum foils, zip lock bags, etc., all are good ways to protect food but there is one problem - all of them can preserve the food for at most a few days but a vacuum sealer can protect the food for longer without any change in the quality.
• Vacuum sealers suck out all the air inside the food packet and seal it shut so that there is no excess oxygen or moisture left for microbes to attack.
• Vacuum sealed packets do not suffer from freezer burns and keeping them in a cold storage reduces the enzyme action further keeping the perishable items fresh for months.
• Vacuum sealers are not just used for food anymore; they are used for a huge range of sensitive products in the market that need an air tight solution.
• They also help in special cooking methods such as Souse-vide cooking which is a French procedure. Here the process includes poaching the food in plastic bags that are vacuum sealed.
There is a huge range of commercial vacuum sealers that vary from a small amount to quite a huge amount in price. It all depends on the type and amount of work that the sealer needs to perform.
Some of the types of sealers include:
• Automatic belt vacuum machines
• Double vacuum chamber machines
• Single vacuum chamber machines
So, select the proper product and buy it from a well reputed company and service provider. if there is any issue or doubt, then ask for help in their customer help-line and they will help to figure out the kind of commercial vacuum sealer that can be bought for the household purposes. A huge number of people use them in their houses for their own safety.

Can You Hand Out Slices Of Pizza For Trick Or Treat?

Imagine the mess it would make in those Trick or Treat bags. Unless you had the kids sitting in your dining room or kitchen eating where it is appropriate, you would have all the neighborhood mothers angry with you. The children who are in your children's classes would be mean and hateful to your kids. That slice of good pizza got tangles up with chocolate, bubble gum, Sweet Tarts and Jolly Ranchers - nothing was edible. The sugar rush the kids looked forward to for a whole month was ruined. On the serious side of things, no parent would allow their child to accept any food that was not pre-packaged and unopened. Some parents still will now allow their children to accept fresh fruit.
That does not mean that pizza will be out of the picture entirely. Why not have a pizza gathering at your home for all the neighborhood parents while they wait on their kids to go out and collect their sugary bootie? You do not have to feed the entire crowd a complete dinner - just have enough for them to enjoy a slice and a soft drink. Most of them will want to sit around and chit-chat and with your provisions they won't have to do it on an empty stomach.
You know you can pull it off because your favorite gourmet pizza delivery will allow you to pre-order to be delivered at a requested time. Can you imagine how long you would have to wait if you ordered at the last minute? If you have guests that arrive late and the pies are not steaming hot, you can always warm them for about five minutes in the oven. Five minutes will not dry them out or make them chewy like warming in the microwave.
So now you have made plans and called all the neighbors. They may bring some of their teenagers who are not out supervising the young ones meandering around the neighborhood with E.T. You want to get your order in early with the pizza delivery.
Everyone loves pepperoni so you will order two large pepperoni pizzas. Yes, some of the special pizzas do have pepperoni on them, but you know several people who enjoy a slice with just the one meat. You must order a white pizza for the ladies who are fitness fanatics. Although there are plenty of people who enjoy Grilled Chicken, Mushrooms, Alfredo Sauce, Garlic, Parmesan and Mozzarella cheeses just because they love the mix of flavors. Your husband had one the other week and raved about it. He began imitating the Godfather after he had two slices of Pepperoni, Canadian Bacon, Sausage, Gyro, Deli Ham, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Red Onions, Black Olives, Meatballs and Mozzarella.
If you want to play it safe for the men in the crowd you can always order several kinds of wings. They always go over well. Your pizza delivery can accommodate you with Barbeque, Buffalo, Lemon Pepper and Teriyaki. Don't forget that some of those teenage boys that will be visiting have big appetites!

Eating Bugs to Save the World

Entomophagy, the eating of insects and other arthropods, is practiced throughout the world and has been since before recorded history began, back when we were still hunter-gatherers. Even Aristotle in the fourth century BC wrote in 'Historia Animalia' about his obsession with hunting for cicadas, describing the correct time to harvest them from the ground and which ones tasted best. A couple of centuries later, Pliny wrote in 'Historia Naturalis' about the Roman taste for beetle larvae and how they used to raise them on a diet of flour and wine.
Edible insects worldwide
As most of us know, the practice has been preserved to this day in many parts of the world. The Aboriginals of Australia and the Saan Bushmen of Southern Africa are among many indigenous people that still count insects as part of their diets. However, it is not just indigenous people who make meals out of insects and other bugs. In fact it is only in the West where the taste for them has recently been lost. Throughout Southeast Asia, China, India and Brazil (to name a few), you can walk down almost any street, even in the cities, and find a range of fried or roasted bugs on display. It just so happens that these regions account for the vast majority of the world's population. In fact, over 80% of the world's nations are known to eat insects. Europe and the US are very much in the minority, and there really is no logical reason for it besides the fact that we are no longer accustomed to it.
Nutritional Content
Among one of the many benefits of entomophagy is the nutritional advantage. Insects are very high in protein and most are relatively low in fat. By dry weight, beef contains 50 grams of protein per 100, whereas crickets contain 65 grams and grasshoppers even more so. Most are also full of essential nutrients such as iron, thiamine and niacin, all of which can be found in your average humble caterpillar.
Environmental Impact
As far as other benefits over the more familiar output of the cattle industry are concerned, there are many and they are far-reaching. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations released a publication in 2013 titled "Edible insects - Future prospects for food and feed security". Their primary foci were the environmental comparisons between the two food sources. For example, insects on average require ten times less plant matter than do cattle to produce the same amount of meat, meaning that they are tenfold more efficient at converting nutrients into biomass. Taking into consideration how much more quickly and with what greater magnitude insects reproduce, this nutrient conversion efficiency is thought to be closer to twenty times greater than that of cattle.
The same is true for their use of water. Grasshoppers gain most of their water from the food they eat, hence the production of 150 grams of grasshopper biomass requires considerably less water than the three thousand litres needed to produce the same weight of beef.
With the ever-rising global human population, any alternative to traditional livestock farming, which has been shown to inherently exacerbate the effects of deforestation, water pollution and climate change, should at least be explored further. To quote Stefan Gates, a food writer and presenter for the BBC:
"Will we one day look back on the early 21st century as a time when the world was bursting with food, but we just didn't appreciate it?"
Matthew W. Anderson is a Systems Biologist and Biochemist with a healthy passion for spreading the message behind how eating insects can be highly nutritional, environmentally-friendly, and more often than not, delicious!

Is Ketchup Good for You?

If your home is among the 97% of kitchens that has ketchup sitting on a pantry shelf, this question might have occurred to you, especially if you have children that shake it all over their food. The answer is sometimes yes and sometimes no, depending on your health needs and what you do with the ketchup.
Ketchup is one of the few processed foods that doesn't have preservatives, so it doesn't have a lot of junk that some foods have. It has a small amount of lycopene, which helps to prevent some kinds of cancer. One tablespoon of ketchup has 16 calories and no fat, so if an individual doesn't go overboard when they lavish it onto a hamburger or slice of meatloaf, it isn't of great concern.
Unfortunately there are some cons if you are watching sugar and salt intake. Most ketchup is 25% sugar and is high in salt. But there are ways to minimize this problem. When you buy your next bottle of this favorite condiment, check the label. Some ketchup is made with artificial sweetening and reduced sodium. You also might want to check the other ingredients if there are some things you can't eat.
There is one way that gives you complete control over what goes into your ketchup - make it yourself! It's not as far out as it sounds. You'll find many recipes on the Internet, and it's easy to do. It can be made with canned or fresh tomatoes, and you can add your favorite herbs and spices. If you cook it in a crock pot you can go do something else while it's cooking, and it won't make a mess by splattering all over your stove. The slow cooking completely blends the ingredients and gives it a deeper flavor. After it's done, put it into jars and wrap them in aluminum foil so the ketchup keeps its bright red color.
It's important to keep it from fermenting. Opened ketchup shouldn't be allowed to sit in a very warm kitchen or in direct sunlight, as it sometimes will squirt out all over you or the kitchen when you take the cap off, and make a dreadful mess. It can be stored in a cool place (such as a pantry shelf away from a heat source like a stove) for about a month. Longer than that, it's best kept in the refrigerator. If the bottle hasn't been opened, it will keep for about a year in the pantry. Stored this way it should keep from fermenting and have a good flavor. If there is any sign that it has started to ferment, it should be thrown away.
